Laboratory Managers Gather in Orlando for KnowledgeLab 2015
CLMA and SAFMLS Attendees Collaborate for a Successful Conference

CLMA hosted 845 attendees at KnowledgeLab 2015, held at Caribe Royal in Orlando, Florida. The event had a sold out exhibit hall floor and saw a 26% attendance increase over last year and had an enthusiastic mix of clinical laboratory managers from both CLMA and the Society of American Federal Medical Laboratory Scientists (SAFMLS).

Highlights from KnowledgeLab 2015 include:

  • Opening general session speaker was Lt Gen (Dr.) Douglas J. Robb kicked off the conference with an inspiring presentation focused on leadership skills learned in the military and its impact on the laboratory. 
  • Dr. Michael Kanter reviewed the post-analytic phase of laboratory testing as KnowledgeLab's Tuesday general session presenter. 
  • As a part of the Tuesday morning general session, the first-ever Increasing Clinical Effectiveness (ICE) abstract winners presented. Winners included:

    The Future of Transfusion Medicine at Unity Point Health: Carol Collingsworth, UnityPoint Health

    Central Ohio Primary Care and Local Specialty Group Working Hand in Glove for Better Patient Outcome: Rebecca Burk, Central Ohio Primary Care Physicians, Inc.
     
  • The final general session speaker, Robert Michel of The Dark Report why healthcare's evolution creates opportunity to redefine the value of clinical laboratories
  • Attendees chose from 50+ sessions in 10 tracks, which map back to the ten CLMA Body of Knowledge domains, supporting excellence in clinical laboratory management. 
  • Nearly 100 exhibiting companies showcased new products, innovations and services that can contribute to the efficiency of laboratory operations. 
  • The third cohort of the Advanced and Fundamentals of Laboratory Leadership programs met in conjunction with KnowledgeLab 2015. Laboratory managers furthered their professional development by exploring and developing critical thinking methods, communication styles, and learned how to create a culture of accountability.

KnowledgeLab 2016 will take place March 20-23 at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida.
