Health Care reform has changed the landscape when it come to compliance with government laws and regulations.   Now, it is in the law that anybody who wants to enroll in government funded health care programs like Medicare, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) they must have an effective compliance program in place in their institution.  Previously, what was a recommendation and based on “guidance” provided by the government is now a requirement and the core elements of compliance program will be stated in the regulation, not guidance.  This session is designed to raise the awareness of laboratory leaders and compliance professionals concerning what this means to them and their laboratories, what actions they should take in response, where they should focus resources and what skills they need to ensure that their compliance officers develop and maintain.

Objectives: Attendees will be able to:
  • Describe the brave new world of laboratory compliance as viewed through health care reform
  • Understand what the government expects from compliance officers and compliance programs in 2010 and beyond
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of a compliance program including the compliance officer
  • Apply specific step by step processes to detect, investigate, resolve and correct compliance related problems in your laboratory or hospital
