A Successful Collaborative Six Sigma Project Between the Laboratory and Emergency Departments

(Converted from ThinkLab 08 session 760)

Wednesday, September 17 | 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM, ET

Today’s clinical world demands its workforce do more with less resources and in a shorter timeframe. In conjunction with this need, more attention has been given to using Six Sigma methodologies to improve patient care and workflow processes, increase efficiencies, and reduce turnaround times. MSH commissioned the first Six Sigma study between the Rapid Response Laboratory and the Emergency Department (ED) to study opportunities to reduce both overall turnaround times and patient length of stay (LOS) in the ED. In this highly informative and insightful session, Vince D’Mello will discuss the study design, measurements used, outcomes achieved and lessons learned from this interdisciplinary project. You will learn how the combination of applying the Six Sigma framework, skillful planning, and strong leadership can result in significant workflow improvements and improved staff inter-relationships between departments.
