CMS Audit Issues
Share |

Members of the US Senate Finance Committee have requested that the Government Accountability Office (GAO) conduct a study of audits being conducted in the Medicare program. If you have an example of an audit that meets one or more of the criteria below, we ask that you complete the form and upload related documents. Please know that neither you nor your institution will be identified.

Criteria for Examples:

Audit Letters: showing poorly written, typos, inaccurate information·

Similar Patient Conditions: examples with different payment results on same clinical condition (paid one time and not the next)·

Over-reach: auditors searching through trash, taking photos, interviews not at business sites, high burdens (asking for 100 records and providing recommendations on only 50 records)

Lack of request coordination by contractor: auditors asking for the same documentation from various sources.

Failure to follow NEGREG procedures: failure to follow current rules.

To send examples

Complete the form below, uploading audit documentation. Remove all patient and institutional identifiers, leaving only the contractor name.
