CMS published the 2014 Clinical Laboratory Fee Schedule (CLFS) and the accompanying transmittal R2823CP on its website. The transmittal says there is a negative 0.75 percent update to the fee schedule after all factors like the productivity adjustment and the -1.75 percent from the Affordable Care Act. That means that a test, like a comprehensive metabolic panel that paid $14.53 in 2013 will pay $14.41 in 2014, a change of $0.12. This is a relatively small change in the CLFS. CLMA Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Quality Logic
On November 17, 2013, CLMA President Paul Epner signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of CLMA that sets forth the terms and understanding for a collaborative effort between CLMA and Quality Logic (QL), an organization based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and focused on implementation of events focused on quality in the clinical laboratory. The MOU will allow QL and CLMA to collaborate to provide professional development and education to clinical laboratory professionals in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) through CLMA’s KnowledgeLab, regional meetings, online training and other mechanisms as mutually agreed. CLMA and QL will also explore areas for collaboration beyond the terms of this agreement such as publications, online education and other areas of mutual interest.
The signing ceremony for the MOU took place at Seeding Knowledge 2013, a conference bringing together senior laboratory professionals from the KSA with leading experts in clinical laboratory quality to join efforts to shape the future quality roadmap of clinical laboratories. Paul Epner served as faculty for the conference.
