C. Anne Pontius, CLMA President, Introduces Mary Beth Hepp, MBA, as New CLMA CEO
On behalf of the entire CLMA Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Beth Hepp, MBA, as CLMA’s new Chief Executive Officer. As I mentioned in an earlier message to the membership, the CLMA leadership has been actively involved in the selection process for a new CEO. Our CEO job description, characteristics and attributes include strong leadership, financial management and strategic planning skills; extensive experience in the healthcare non-profit arena; and the ability to build and sustain external alliances and partnerships. In Mary Beth Hepp, we have found a talented, results-oriented association professional who meets and exceeds all of our specifications. For the past several years, Hepp has served as the Executive Director for the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, Inc. (SGNA), an 8,500-member professional organization of nurses and associates dedicated to the safe and effective practice of gastroenterology and endoscopy nursing. She has directed activities for all association programs, including education, marketing, meetings, membership, 63 Regional Societies, accreditation, media, information technology, finance and administration. In addition, she has led the development and implementation of strategic plans, business plans and new outreach and revenue opportunities within the GI and endoscopy specialty. Prior to her appointment as SGNA’s Executive Director, Hepp worked for the American Red Cross in a number of capacities and locations. During her tenure in National Sales and Customer Support in Washington, DC, she created and implemented health and safety training programs for 1,500 chapters and thousands of volunteers nationwide. She later was appointed Director of Health and Safety Program Sales and Services in Chicago. Hepp holds a BS in marketing from Northern Illinois University and an MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Management. She has authored articles for Associations Now, the official publication of the American Society of Association Executives and the Center for Association Leadership, and is a contributing author to Conversations in Leadership of Professional Nursing Associations.
